SingularityU The Netherlands, the first Exponential Regional Partner for Singularity University, has selected a well respected mix of technology experts to become its local Dutch faculty for SingularityU NL core training programs, events and annual Summits. They will also become part of the global Singularity University Faculty. Selected faculty members have expertise in a wide range of exponential technologies.

The newly announced faculty are: Arash Aazami (Energy), Jaya Baloo (Security & Quantum Computing), Roeland Dietvorst (Neuroscience), Jos Joore (Biotech), Jim Stolze (Artificial Intelligence), Aaike van Vugt (Nanotech)Jane Zavalishina (Fintech & Big Data) and Rutger van Zuidam (Cryptocurrency & Blockchain).



Diederick Croese (CEO, SingularityU The Netherlands): “We are very happy to have such a strong new selection of local faculty members, that will help educate and inspire people about a wide range of exponential technologies. We’re looking forward to see them on stage with the other global Singularity University speakers during our Summit in September”. Criteria for faculty selection included academic credentials, career development, and importantly, practical knowledge of their specific areas of expertise. This is in line with the core philosophy of SingularityU the Netherlands: learning by doing and building our own start-ups over time. The faculty will help SingularityU the Netherlands reach its goal of stimulating the Dutch innovation ecosystem by sharing knowledge and insights through our events and training programs.

Arash Aazami – Energy

Arash Aazami is an entrepreneur, system innovator and free thinker. He became director of an energy supplier, developed radically different business models and founded the world’s first “energy independence company” in 2010. He gained international attention when his work was awarded by MIT in 2014. In 2015 Arash founded Kamangir, a company designing future energy systems, developing long-term visions, strategies and disruptive innovations for generations to come.

Jaya Baloo – Security & Quantum Computing

Jaya Baloo is the Chief Information Security Officer of KPN. She won the Cyber Security Executive of the year award in 2015. Jaya has 18 years of experience in information security, working mostly for global telecommunications companies such as Verizon and France Telecom. Jaya is also a frequent speaker at security conferences on subjects around lawful interception, mass surveillance, and cryptography.

Roeland Dietvorst – Neuroscience

Dr. Roeland Dietvorst has a background in biological and cognitive psychology and obtained a PhD in Neuroscience. He is co-founder at Alpha.One, a consumer neuroscience research and strategy firm, that uses insights and techniques adopted from neuroscience to better understand how subconscious processes in the brain influence our day-to-day decision making.

Jos Joore – Biotech

Jos Joore is a biotech entrepreneur with over 18 years of executive level bio-business experience within Pepscan, SkylineDx, Kreatech Diagnostics (now part of Leica Biosystems) and Westburg.

Jim Stolze – Artificial Intelligence

Jim Stolze is the founder of Aigency, a platform that enables Artificial Intelligence experiments for corporates, using algorithms and software created by PHD’s, hackers and startups.

Aaike van Vugt – Nanotech

Aaike van Vugt has a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from the Delft University of Technology. He is the co-founder of VSParticle, aiming to help research and industry in the production of inorganic nanoparticles with the goal to help researchers in the fundamental development of new products like batteries, catalyst, electronics, or nano-medicines.

Jane Zavalishina – Fintech & Big Data

Jane Zavalishina is the CEO of Yandex Data Factory – an industrial AI company belonging to Yandex, one of Europe’s largest internet companies. Jane has more than 15 years of experience in using innovative technologies to create new and transform traditional businesses. She is a regular voice at international events on AI-related topics. She also serves on the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Councils. Jane was recently named in Silicon Republic’s Top 40 Women in Tech as an Inspiring Leader.

Rutger van Zuidam – Cryptocurrency & Blockchain

Rutger van Zuidam (Blockchain) is the founder of DutchChain, one of the leading blockchain businesses in the Netherlands on a mission: improving society through blockchain based solutions. Its activities include developing software (as a service) solutions, organizing ecosystem events like the Dutch Blockchain Conference and a large scale open innovation programme: The Dutch Blockchain Hackathon. He is the co-producer of the world famous BitcoinProperly animation video explaining the true value of Blockchain.
